Welcome to Little Sunbeams!

Our Team

At Little Sunbeams, our team is made up of caring, passionate educators who love working alongside children and their whānau. We believe in creating meaningful relationships, celebrating each child's unique strengths, and providing a safe and welcoming environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

Our teachers bring a range of experiences, knowledge, and talents, and are committed to continuous learning and growth. Together, we create a place where curiosity is encouraged, friendships flourish, and children are supported to learn, explore, and shine every day.

Our Philosophy

At Little Sunbeams, we believe every child is a unique and capable learner, created, loved, and valued by God. We are committed to providing a warm, inclusive, and nurturing environment where children feel a strong sense of belonging and are supported to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our teaching is guided by New Zealand's early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki, and inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. We see children as competent, curious, and full of potential, with the ability to contribute to their own learning and the learning of others. We value children's ideas, questions, and theories, and believe that learning happens through meaningful relationships, exploration, creativity, and collaboration.

Our Learning Programmes

At Little Sunbeams, we believe learning should be meaningful, engaging, and full of joy. Alongside our everyday learning programme, we offer a range of experiences that support children's development, celebrate diversity, and bring our community together.

Our younger children (2–3.5 years) enjoy ‘Mainly Music’, held every Thursday morning at the Community Centre. Through music, movement, singing, and play, children build confidence, coordination, language skills, and friendships while having lots of fun.

For our older children (3.5–5 years), we provide an intentional Transition to School Programme designed to support children as they prepare for their next learning journey. Through meaningful experiences, growing independence, and developing key skills, we help children build confidence and readiness for school while responding to their individual needs and interests.

Our Story

Little Sunbeams was established over 20 years ago through the vision of the Papakura Community Trust, who saw an opportunity to serve and connect with the local community through early childhood education.
What began as a small centre with fewer than 10 children has grown into a thriving learning community. Over the years, we have been privileged to walk alongside many children and whānau, building lasting relationships and strong connections within our community, local organisations, schools, and families.

I am grateful to Sunbeams whānau for having taken good care of my two kids. We are so blessed to have the best teachers support our children's learning, self-discovery, holistic development. Most of all, you have a planted a beautiful seed of the living Word of God, His love embodied, ever present in our lives in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
